It’s all about the benjamins. Am I right?
Blogging is great; a wonderful mix of freedom, self-expression, and fulfillment.
But let’s be real, that doesn’t pay the bills.
Money makes the world go ’round. And who wouldn’t want an extra source of income that’s their very own.
If you want to start earning money through your blog you have a ton of options.
How to Make Money Blogging
1. Sell Ads
Since the birth of blogging, ads have been the primary source of income for millions of bloggers. They do degrade the experience a bit, but they are easy to implement and are great for making money. Large businesses thrive by selling their audience to advertisers.
Don’t go crazy on the Ads. They only make you money if you have enough people to sell them to. Deteriorating an experience with too many ads is counterproductive.
2. Affiliate Marketing
One of the most interesting, yet least understood on this list is affiliate marketing. As a blogger you have a following. This following is valuable. They come to your site and listen to you. They trust your opinion and your word holds weight.
You can make money by directing some of your traffic to Ecommerce sites. For example, if you are reviewing a book you can leave a link to it on Amazon. If they visit the link and buy the book, you can get a cut of the sale.
Many companies like Amazon, ebay, and others are always looking for more traffic. They’ll gladly pay you a cut of each sale you’re responsible for. For more info on affiliate marketing, visit here.
Affiliate marketing is tricky. If done right, everyone wins. If not, you’ll lose your audience’s trust in a second.
3. Take Donations
Taking donations is always an option, but I wouldn’t count on any stable revenue coming from it. If one of the most popular and used websites in the world struggles to make enough money through donations, don’t be surprised if you can’t either.
If you’re going to take donations, pair them with Ads or Affiliate marketing.
4. Charge Subscriptions
If you really think your content is great and know your audience agrees, then charge for it. But if you go this route, your content really has to be amazing.
Even then, it’s tough sledding. People have gotten used to content being free. Even high-powered, established brands are having a tough time making money through subscriptions.
5. Sell Stuff
Use your blog to create a brand and then sell things on top. Instead of using your blog as a means to an end, use it as a platform to jumpstart things.
Write ebooks. Offer consulting services. Start a movement or company. Become a speaker. Create products.
This is my favorite way to make money online and probably the most lucrative.
6. Sell Posts
Premium content has become gold on the Internet. Almost everyone is looking for better content. And more of it.
If you want to make some extra cash on the side, you can always make money by selling content.
7. Work for Someone
In tune with the last point, there are a lot of jobs open for professional bloggers at businesses. Content marketing is booming and every business is starting to pump out content.
To match this demand, these businesses have to hire people like you, content creators. If you don’t mind working for someone else and having limitations on your content, you can make some serious dough.
It’s all about the green. Know what I mean?
If you want to make money from your blog you have your options. Just make sure you choose a business model that makes sense for you, your blog, and your audience.
And if you really want to make money invest in yourself. Leverage your following and sell something of your own.
